Open trails north east?? not on the lift??? REALLY CONFUSED!? - best north east skiing

OK, so that both Okemo and Killington are some titles to open with lifts. However, the roads are not entitled to the elevator, they are spread out a little ... Why do people like to hike the trails, ski slopes or just Arent as open? My family and I are thinking about leaving, but we understand! Please help
